Turner Contemporary, Margate - David Chipperfield

Due to open at the end of the week is Chipperfield's Turner Contemporary in Margate. The particular significance of this project for the practice is it is their first public building in the UK.


The controversial project hit a few problems prior to Chipperfield's involvement. Snøhetta and Spence Associates, the original designers could not keep costs down and was then cancelled before the mantle was passed to Chipperfield.


In the true style of the architect, the building comprises of 6 identical monopitched roofed volumes and will be one of the biggest art galleries outside of London.
